Chef Christina Lee
Chef Christina Lee is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute’s, Culinary Program, wine studies, and restaurant management.
A chef in the Central Market Cooking School since 2008, Christina recently participated in developing new, authentic Spanish tapas recipes for Central Market’s Passport Spain, an event celebrating international cuisine held May 11 to 24, 2011. Throughout the two-week festival, she worked closely with featured Passport Spain chefs, including two-time Michelin star Chef Paco Roncero and B44 restaurant owner, Daniel Olivella.
Before joining the Central Market Cooking School in Austin, Christina worked in a variety of settings including The Four Seasons Hotel & Resort in Austin, Houston and New York City; L’Ecole, The Restaurant of The French Culinary Institute; L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in New York City; and as auction director at The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas.
Christina was selected as the statewide champion of the 2010 Chefs Under Fire culinary competition with a winning dish of Red Snapper over Israeli Couscous with Sweet Potatoes, Swiss Chard and a Citrus Vinaigrette.
Chef Louis Ortiz
Louis Ortiz, a native Texan from Victoria, has worked in the food industry for more than 20 years. It began at the age of 16, when he took a job as a dishwasher in a steakhouse so that he could finance his first electric guitar. He worked in all front and back of the house positions while attending Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. After graduating in 1994 with a BA in English, he became sous chef and kitchen manager for the popular Chuy’s Hula Hut in Austin while writing music and stories in his spare time. After 15 years managing many restaurants in both Austin and Houston, he became a service director and seafood manager for the HEB Central Market grocer, opening the Houston location in 2001. After spending 3 years managing and assisting with store openings, Louis became a chef instructor for the Le Cordon Bleu Texas Culinary Academy in Austin. He spent 3 years teaching and managing the on-campus restaurant Ventana, then moved to South Padre Island to be Executive Chef at the popular Amberjack’s restaurant. Louis now lives in Pflugerville, Texas, and is a culinary instructor at the Central Market Cooking School in North Austin. He is also a graduate student at Texas State University pursuing a master’s degree in Adult Education.
